ADVOCACY

Advocacy forms an important part of RENEW's fight against human trafficking and the prostitution of women and children.  RENEW has therefore developed three 'advocacy mechanisms' designed to empower those participating in them as well as informing audiences about the dangers of human trafficking and prostitution.

1. Drama & Theatre Group:

The drama and theatre group involves some of RENEW's current and past clients who have come together to create a drama and musical about sex trafficking.  This powerful production recalls the story of a young women taken from her family and forced into prostitution.  The story is a collective account of seven of our sheltered based clients own experiences when they themselves were trafficked.

The story is real and the music is powerful. The musical drama is presented in schools, communities, local government departments and other venues.  Before the drama information is given about the current situation in Angeles city re: human trafficking, and is followed after the drama by information about RENEW Foundation's programs to combat the trafficking and prostitution of women and children.

2.  Dance Group: RENEW Dance Crew

The group brings together young women aged 16-24 years of age who are current or past clients of RENEW Foundation.  The group has 8 members and a choreographer. The group directly advocates against human trafficking through their dance performances, paraphernalia, & t-shirts with RENEW's 24 hour hotline number for trafficking victims displayed.  The dance group also competes in competitions locally and nationally as well as performing at various community events.

Dance is a great form of expression and releasing of one's emotions, and is therefore an excellent way of both healing  & empowerment.

3.  School and Community based Interactive Seminars

This is led by two of RENEW's social welfare staff.  The seminar is designed for both secondary school levels and for communities.  The interactive seminar encompasses key themes about human trafficking and prostitution to improve awareness, understanding and knowledge of human trafficking including how to ensure you do not become a victim yourself. Information about the dangers and abuses of prostitution are also included through both group and individual activities, short films/videos and group discussions.
