RENEW Foundation is a Christian International NGO. RENEW aims to empower female victims of prostitution & sex trafficking through an holistic approach to recovery.  RENEW also works to prevent young women from being trafficked & from entering prostitution through community development programs including income generating projects, seminars & scholarships. RENEW Foundation Philippines is located in Angeles City (A.C.), north of the Philippines capital Manila. A.C. is one of the largest sex tourist destinations in the world with over 15 thousand women working in its sex establishments. A.C. is also the Philippine's second largest destination point (after Manila) for internal trafficking, & is one of the main recruitment points used by trafficking networks.

RENEW Foundation’s Exec. Director Receives Prestigious Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women in Angeles City, Philippines.

RENEW is pleased to announce that our Executive Director Mrs. Maylyn Fuller has been awarded the 2010 Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women in Angeles City.  The award acknowledges the tireless work of Maylyn Fuller to improve the lives of trafficked and prostituted women and girls in the city. Honorees of this award are women who have worked in extraordinary ways to benefit women and girls. Mrs. Cecilia Maria L, Lazatin – President of Soroptimist International of Angeles City, comments on RENEW's Executive Director':  “Your work has shown a significant and positive impact on the lives of women and girls you have touched in the course of your work to empower female victims of prostitution and sex trafficking.  For someone as young as you, we admire the vision, energy and focus that you devote in your advocacy to assist this often overlooked and neglected sector of society “.

 

The award ceremony will be held on March 23rd (2010) at Soroptimist'sHQ in Angeles City.

 

Filipino group helps women find life outside of trafficking

Angeles City, Philippines (CNN) -- Sitting in the backyard garden of a women's outreach center, a woman recounts a life that seems to belie her young age of 20 and her name, Joy.  "I started working as a prostitute in Fields Avenue when I was 15," said Joy, a native of this city in the northern Philippines.

 

"I needed the money to support my baby, as I was already so poor. But after awhile the bar's "mamasan" (the name given to a woman who oversees work in businesses such as brothels and bars) said I should go to Malaysia to work, where I could make a lot more money."
