VOLUNTEER

RENEW has volunteer and intern placements in various positions including teaching, social work, community development, health provision, fundraising, advocacy and livelihood.  Volunteer and intern placements can last for as little as a week and last as long as six months (or longer). RENEW accepts both women and men aged 18 years and older, with at least A Level qualifications or their equivalent (high school graduates), and who can demonstrate their commitment to RENEW's mission. Some volunteer positions may, however, be more suitable for female candidates. RENEW also accepts students for their practicum or on the job training - social work, psychology and medical students.

'I expected that I'd be mainly based in an office helping with admin etc but from the time I arrived in Angeles, I was right in the heart of the work that RENEW Foundation does.  My first evening in Angeles I was invited to go along with the team to do outreach work in the Sex bars....this consisted of going into the bars and talking to the girls that work there and providing different kinds of support for them......'

'Raising awareness of RENEW to the women working in the bars and videokees was challenging but equally rewarding. It also gave us a great opportunity to get to know the shelter residents too, who were always enthusiastic about outreach work. In the daytime we would hand out leaflets and talk with the women at the Hygiene Clinic, where basic sexual health tests are performed – not for the protection of the women, but for the benefit of the sex tourists. So many women seem surprised that someone would want to help them, especially without charging a fee. We both felt something stir in our hearts when we recognised women we met during outreach arrive at the foundation to enrol on courses.'
